Tata Motors launched the Punch.EV facelift in India on February 20, 2026. It is available in five broad trims- Smart, Smart+, Adventure, Empowered, and Empowered+ S.

The 30kWh battery pack is only available on the Smart and Smart+ trims. The larger 40kWh battery pack is available on all variants save for the base Smart trim. Both battery packs use Prismatic cells.

The biggest highlight of the BaaS scheme is the reduction it brings in the upfront costs. It is, in a way, a financing scheme and has lately got popular among EV buyers.

At the facelift’s launch event, Tata Motors announced that that BaaS would bring the upfront cost down to Rs 6.49 lakh and the battery rent will be around Rs 2.6 per km. No further detail surfaced in the days that followed.

The base-spec Smart variant has an ex-showroom price of Rs 9.69 lakh. We collected this data from a dealer in Kerala. The on-road price of this variant here is Rs 10.55 lakh.

Under the BaaS program, the upfront cost gets reduced to Rs 6.49 lakh, ex-showroom- a saving of Rs 3.2 lakh. The on-road price in Kerala, then becomes Rs 7.49 lakh. The owner ends up saving Rs 3.06 on the entire deal.

Tata Motors has set the battery rent at Rs 2.6 per km. Dealers say that the owner will have to pay a minimum monthly rental of Rs 4680. This calculation has been arrived at by multiplying a minimum daily running of 60 Kms times 30 days times 2.6 (battery rent per Km).

Going by available information, it's clear that the BaaS program will make sense to people who drive their Punch.EVs frequently - at least for 1800 odd kilometres per month/60 Kms per day.

People who choose the base-spec Punch.EV variants will be extra sensitive to overall costs. It is important for them to calculate their monthly commuting distance and do the math, before committing to the BaaS program.

The biggest talking point of this update is the bigger 40kWh battery pack which comes on the Adventure trim and above. It is capable of charging from 20% to 80% in just 26 minutes. 15 minutes at a 65kW fast charger can replenish enough charge to cover 135km. This battery pack has an ARAI range of 468km per charge and a C75 range of 355km per charge.

The new Punch.EV continues to be based on the Active.EV architecture. To reduce complexity and optimise costs, components like the electric motor, gearbox, inverter, DC-DC converter, onboard charger etc have been packaged into a single e-drive module.

Overall, the higher variants of the new Punch.EV offer great value for their respective prices.
