Closer Look At India's Most Affordable Maruti Suzuki eVitara Electric SUV

1 week ago 30

Maruti Suzuki finally launched their first-ever electric SUV, the eVitara, in the Indian market. The prices for the eVitara start at Rs 10.99 lakh with BaaS, and if you want to buy the car without the battery rental package, the prices start at Rs 15.99 lakh, ex-showroom. We have already seen several videos of the eVitara online, and we also know the variants. The electric SUV has finally started reaching dealerships, and here we have a video that shows what the base variant of the eVitara offers.

The video has been shared by CAR SPAR and Aditya Singh on their YouTube channel. In this video, the vlogger goes to a dealer stockyard and gives a quick walkaround of the base Delta variant of the eVitara. The vlogger was actually surprised to see the number of features that even the base variant of the eVitara was offering.

He starts with the front first. The projector headlamp and dual-function signature LED DRLs can be seen; however, the projectors miss the auto or self-levelling feature in this variant. The front grille and the bumper design remain the same; however, it misses out on fog lamps, a 360-degree camera, and the ADAS camera and radars.

Coming to the side profile, the eVitara base variant offers 18-inch alloy wheels. Even the spare wheel on this EV is an alloy of the same size. We see the thick cladding around the wheel arches, and also the lower part of the bumper misses out on the silver-coloured faux skid plates.

The clear-lens LED tail lamps and all other features remain the same, and it also offers a rear defogger and wiper with a spoiler. The cabin of the eVitara Delta does not feel very basic. It misses out on a few features like ADAS and other features including cruise control.

The eSUV comes with dual-tone fabric seats with manual height adjustment for the driver’s seat. The fully digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system are all the same as the higher variants. The dashboard is finished in dual-tone soft-touch material, and so on. The eSUV comes with automatic climate control and so on.

The eVitara base Delta variant is powered by a 49 kWh battery pack that generates 144 PS and offers a claimed range of 440 km. At the moment, Maruti is manufacturing the eVitara for both the Indian and international markets at their facility in Gujarat.

Along with the eVitara, Maruti is also manufacturing eBella for Toyota at the same plant. Due to this, there is currently a limitation on the number of EVs that are dispatched for the Indian market. Maruti has said that they will be limiting production to 2,000 units a month. This situation should remain until July, as Maruti is currently planning to set up another assembly line at the same facility to increase production and meet demand.

Hopefully, the waiting period for the eVitara will come down in the coming months. Maruti is also working on improving the charging infrastructure across India. They are setting up fast chargers in every Nexa dealership, and apart from that, they are also working on public charging networks with help from other companies that are already in this business.
